Flexible RV Organization

Suction hooks are an RVer’s friend.

We have passed the 6-month mark of full-timing in our 27’ Airstream. Some ideas we thought sounded great at the time haven’t proven so useful or have even been downright duds. Others are performing better than anticipated, which is particularly valuable when it comes to the unique challenges of RV organization.

Today’s shared tip highlights the usefulness of suction hooks. We originally purchased chrome baskets that used these suction cups to mount in the shower and kitchen to organize cleaning and cooking essentials. While the baskets provided only limited utility for our purposes, the suction cups fitted with hanging hooks are proving to have endless uses. They have earned a permanant spot in our multi-tasker tool kit.

Simply place one on a flat, non-porous surface and twist the knob to secure.

This hook lives on the back of the bathroom door, where it holds a towel ready for after a shower.

Some will say the 3M Command hooks and adhesive can do the same job, but we found we have re-positioned and repurposed these hooks so many times that repeatedly buying more disposable adhesive strips wasn’t practical. We do like the 3M hooks for some jobs, just not when it comes to reconfiguring our setup as we continue to evolve and learn more about what works best for us.

These hooks are larger and hold more weight than other repositionable solutions (up to 22 pounds).  They also go up quickly to hold light things, like the odds and ends that we use at bedtime.

Do you have a favorite RV hanging solution? We’d love hear about it in the comments.

Setting up House in the Airstream: Episode 4 – Sweeping and Suction Cups

Stationary upright sweeper

We found the best sweeper set for the Airstream last week. This duo is hands down better than anything we have tried over the past couple of decades. It’s best feature is the ability to quickly, and I mean lickety-split, sweep up small messes on the floor in the trailer without having to bend over or pull out the vacuum cleaner. I bought one for the boat too 🙂

Repositionable suction cups

These suction hooks were another great discovery. Each unit attaches to the wall, or any non-porous surface by turning the silver knob and creating a strong suction that holds into place. Release them simply by unscrewing the knob. They allow you to experiment with where you want to hang things. The Command Strips are great for remove-ability, but they are inconvenient if you want to move things around.

Nice and tidy
